Rafael IV recently celebrated their 887th anniversary of Reclassification, a festival dedicated to the generational war against the fetid jungles and when Rafael IV graduated from Death World to Hive World. Hive Makalös, as the first-among-Hives, is a monument to this victory. It soars over the jungles of Rafael IV clad in glittering ferrocrete, plasteel—sealed, and severed from the Green—the local name given to the jungles. As the case with most celebrated victories and feverish proclamations, the truth of the matter is altogether more complicated. The Green flows through the Hive as precious lumber sold to the rich, ferocious beasts shipped to off-world circuses, and potent flora refined into drugs and medicines. The foundations and lower levels are altogether more permeable as the Green has slowly sundered abandon defences, and in the dark the Green has taken new forms.
